MOTORING CLUB.

SPEED-iS UDCINO COMPETITION. A meeting of the committee of the Motoring Club was field last night, !>)•. Robertson presiding. it was decided to hold a speed-] mining competition, and the president (Mr 11. Masters) and the secretary were appointed to make all arrangements. The following general conditions were drawn up lor competition ; A speed-judging competition will be hold on February iUth, competitors to assemble at the A.Z.L. and ALA. Co. icorner at 2 p.m. 'i'lie routtj will cover a total distance over ordinary roads of about thirty miles, but until the commencement of the competition the route will not be revealed to any competitor. The rules are constituted to ensure absolute fairness; each competitor will be provided with a caid hat mg inscribed on it the speed at which he is to travel; tins information will be unknown to all except the competitor and the judge, and any inquiry into another man’s speed rate will disqualify the inquirer. There will he secret controls on the route, and competitors are not permitted to stop at the end of the out journey, but must | return at once—the cyclist whose toital time error is least being the winuei. Neither watches or speedometers will be allowed, and every competitor must carry a number that is plainly visible. Any class of machine (solo or sidecar) may enter for the competition, | m t with side-cars the driver of the machine must not inform his passenger, of Ids speed standard, the penalty being disqualification. Entries close with the secretary on Monday next.
