THE PREMIER'S INTERVIEW.

Sydney, February 8

IS]\- Carmichael informed the Conference that he had cabled to Mr Holman regarding his alleged escape-pipe statement. He read Mr Holman's reply to the effect that the report of his statement was very much condensed, and'that he did not say the Conference was a useful escape-pipe only, but, on the contrary, had emphasised the many valuable decisions already reached and the good sense and feeling shown. He further quoted the New Zealand Press as reporting his (Mr Holman's remarks in referring to the Conference as being animated throughout with the full recognition of the necessity to strengthen the movement and clear the way for effective legislation. The Conference accepted the explanation unanimously. CHAIRWOMAN MRS DWYER.

SOME OF THE RESOLUTIONS.

j The Labor Conference had a new experience, as in the absence of the 'president, .Mrs Dwyer presided at the sitting. Resolutions were carried in favour of a State sewing machine factory with a Government subsidy in ! connection with the scheme for the higher'education of workers; that the copyright of all books and manu- | scripts published in the CommonI wea-th be reserved to the author without registration; that marriage ,or cohabitation of whites with coloured aliens be prohibited. It was j decided to send a resolution in favor iof ihe prohibition, manufacture, and importation of sale of cigarettes ithroughout the Commonwealth, and also a resolution that at the next election a plebiscite be taken on the j question of the abolition of the importation, manufacture, and distribution of alcoholic beverages, to the annual conference of the Australian ! Labor League. /
