o SWIMMING. HANDICAP CHAMPION CUP. It is hoped to swim the final of the 50yds distance of the Handicap Champion Cup on Monday, and the heats of the 75yds distance on Tuesday. THE COMING CARNIVAL.

A full meeting of the committee is to be held next Tuesday,.to make final arrangements for the carnival on the 17th.

In the cricket match Tasmania v. New South Wales, Tasmania batted first for 163 runs. Myers 31, Robinson 33, Eltham 46. A rule prohibiting American tennis players from accepting expense money, except for State and national world tournaments, was approved by the Committee of the National Association. It will be submitted for ratification at the next general meeting. The rule places American amateurs on the same basis as other countries, j which is important in view of the Davis Cup, matches. ROWAN SPORTS. The Rowan Athletic Club's eighth annual sports meeting takes place on Thursday, February 19th. The gathering is always a popular one and is generally attended by residents of this district. An excellent programme has been provided, including athletic, chopping and horse events, which are fully detailed in the programme published in another column. In the evening a grand dance will bo held in the Rowan Hall. Nominations for events No. 4,7, 10, and 12 close with the secretary at 8 p.m. this evening, and For No. 3, 6 and 9 on Wednesday, the 11th February, at 8 p.m. Mr H. Thrush is the honorary secretary.
