“George Birmingham's” play, “General John Regan.” was acted at Westport, County Mayo, where the Rev. J. 0, Hannay, who writes under the name of “George Brimingham,” was rector for 20 years.
Four hundred people attacked the company, broke the windows of their hotel, and stormed the stage and smashed the scenery.
■ The police dispersed them with batons.
The demonstration was due to the belief that Ballymoy, the scene of the play, was Westport.
