' Several returned members of the Parliamentary party addressed a meeting in Connaught rooms on their recent visit to Australia. The Hor. T. Mackenzie and the agents of man/ Australian States were present. Lord Emott said there was an impression in the Motherland that Australia was a bare, monotonous country ; they found it a land of beautiful scenery and delightful variety, from an Englishman’s standpoint. Melbourne, in the matter of atmosphere, was nearer London than was Edinburgh or Glasgow. Lord Emott was struck with the splendid spirit of national defence and the enthusiasm for universal training. Mr Edgar Jones (Liberal member for Merthyr Borough) said that Australasians had assets unlimited and had people organised to deliver goods, the development of Australasia meant cheap food for this country.
