Mr T. W . Stringer, the new president of the Arbitration Court, was horn in Christchurch on November 4th, 18-57. Ho was educated at Mrs Alabaster’s School and at the old Presbyterian High School, which ceased to exist when the Education Act of 1877 came into operation. Mr ’ Stringer also attended lectures at Canterbury College. He was a clerk at Messrs Iwentymau and Cousins’s for I a time, and was articled to Mr T. I. •ioyut in September 1874, and adJ mitted as a barrister and solicitor in October, 1879, when he became a partner in the linn of Duncan, Cotterill and Stringer. Since then he has carried on practice in Christchurch. In May, 1898, Mr Stringer was appointed Crown Solicitor, and in June, 1907, he was made King’s Counsel. He has been President of the Canterbury Law Society for some years, and was also at one time a member of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College. As a young man Mr Stringer was a member of the Canterbury Rowing Club, and as a footballer he was A member of the first interprovincial team from Canterbury which toured \ New Zealand in 1876, and represented the province for several years after. ! right signs having been removed. \ v
