Zealand liave made groat sacrifices to place their defence forces on an efficient footing. This defence is chiefly directed against Japan, which is also our most likely foe in the iuture. Our jpolitical interests, therefore, are to I some extent, identical.” The article proceeds to suggest a defensive alliance between the Dutch Indies, Australia, and -New Zealand, and adds: “Once we possess a strong fleet, our friendship, no doubt, will he valued, and not only tlu> United States, but also Australia and New Zealand will probably
welcome the suggestion of an alliance with ns.” The paper declares that a visit from Australia’s new fleet would
be welcome
