NEW ZEALANDERS ON TOUR
MANAGERIAL opinions
[Per Press Association.] Wellington; January 28. Air Orchard, manager of the Now Zealand cricket team, some members of which returned this morning, states that the tour had proved most enjoyable, and could not he called unsuccessful. Members had learned many lessons from a cricket point of view. The hard grounds spolit the New Zealanders’ fielding to a certain extent. He attributed their defeat by ’N ictona and New Soutli Wales to the fact that players were affected by the importance of the occasion. The bowling against them was not of the nature —toT'omTUfor New Zealand’s pdor scor- ■' i n g. If the matches were played over • again he considered they would do much better. The New Zealanders did not learn a great deal in fowling, which though knocked about,'’ were treated as Australian bowlers are treated every day. Borne of the team did not do themselves justice, and could not be expected to adapt themselves to Australian conditions m a month. All showed glimpses of New Zealand form, but some were not consistent. The Auckland members of the team and Reece (captain) leave Sydney on their return to-day.
