FIRE.

OAONUI SCHOOLMASTER'S HOUSE DESTROYED.

fPKR Pisksh Association.]

In the small hours of yesterday morning a fire broke out in the schoolmaster's resident at Oaonui, and the building, which was the property of the Taranaki Education Board, and uninsured, was totally destroyed. The house was a wooden one containing five rooms, valued at £l5O. It contained furniture and household effects valued at £IOO, the property of the schoolmaster, Mr C. J. Evetts, which were also totally destroyed. There was no insurance on the furniture, so that Mr Evetts is a loser to the extent of its value (states the News). The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, Mr Evetts and his wife having left Oaonui on December 12, on a visit to Xew Plymouth to spend a holiday. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
