Wharf Destroyed.

A CYCLONE AT MATATEA. NO LOSS OF LIFE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] ICnited Press Association.] Auckland, January 20. The steamer Detmold has arrived from Matatea Island, 125 miles from Tahiti. She reports that on January 4th and oth, Matatea experienced a cyclone. The Detmold steamed seawards, and tvas outside for eight days, and sustained no damage. On returning to Matatea she found that 180 feet of the pier had been destroyed, together with the Irbuses thereon, and a number of boats. About 100 shanties, occupied by natives, were wrecked, but there was io loss of life. The Detmold was unable to load phosphates consequent on the wreckage of the wharf, and came on to Auckland in ballast.
