SWIMMING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Stratford Swimming Club was held last night, Mr W. P. Kirkwood being in the chair.
ANNUAL REPORT.
The secretary reported on behalf of die committee ; Your committee regrets having to report experiencing a bad '.eason, owing to insufficient support. V donation of £5 towards improving die swimming baths, and other expenses show a loss for the season of £5 15s. \o carnivals were held and the Chalenge Cup was not competed for. A rood season is expected, for with an mproved bath and new swimmers, pubic interest should be aroused. Tiie balance-sheet showed a cash credit of £7 Is sd.
In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman said the position of lie chib was good—ever since they had started they had always been financial. Te felt sure that the only reason for lie had season last year was the bad veather. There was any amount of
mthusiasm in the town, and the swimtiers would keep the club going if hey were favored with decent weather. There was a great future before Stratford as regards swimming because of its central position. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: President, Mr W. P. Kirkwood 3 vicepresidents, Messrs G. Hunter, 1). J. dalone, F. A. Tvrer, J. Masters, P.
•Skoglund, J. McCluggage; committee, Messrs 1). Finlay, 11. L. Spratt, C. Kelly, h. Curtis, Lister, Tenipler, Dewar, C. Bennett ; handicapper, •aptain. vice-captain, starter, timekeeper, left to the committee; auditor and treasurer, Mr C. Potts; secretary, Mr C. Whittington; delegate .0 Wanganui centre, left in the hands of the committee; chairman of committee, Mr Spratt. GENERAL. It was decided to recommend the ■ommittee to appoint a ladies’ committee to control ladies’ races, the inject being to hold a combined caruval. After discussion on the merits of d'ternoon and night sports meetings it was decided that the first carnival >e held in the evening. It was decided to recommend the ■ommittee to arrange a carnival for February 12th. .Mr Staples moved a vote of thanks tn the out-going secretary. Mr Kiv'cll. he said, had been one of the most lard-working members of the Club. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Malone for the use of his office.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
It was decided to hold a 50yds Chib race on Monday evening next. Mr C. K. Seahright was appointed hamlicapoer: Mr I). .1. Malone, starter; Mr Pinhey, time-keeper; Mr E. H. Kivell, captain; Mr 1). Finlay, vice-captain.
The matter of forming a ladies’ committee was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary.
Mr F. Turnbull was appointed delegate to the Wanganui Centre. It was decided to hold the evening carnival on February 13th.
The committee is to meet again on Friday next.
Messrs Spratt, Finlay, Kelly and the Secretary were appointed a subcommittee to report to next meeting on the programme for the carnival.
