MOTORING CLUB.

FORMED IN STRATFORD. A meeting of motor-cyclists was; hell last night for the purpose of forming a Motor-Cycle'.Club in Stratford. Dr. Robertson was voted to the chair. An apology for absence was received from Mr T. C. Crnhh. Mr \V. B/hFearon, convenor of the meeting, said the object of such a 'chib was to guard against unjust legislation against motor vehicles, to mge I the making of good roads and general - j lly to encourage the use of the motor- | cycle. An oliject of the Manawatu Motor-Cycle Club was to promote j motor-cycle picnics. This club’s me.inIbership fee was los, reducible to 10s if paid before November Ist, and there was an entrance ..fee of ss. The suggestion was made that probably motor car owners cojild be admitted to membership. The chairman said that much had to I be done in Taranaki. None of the j roads were properly fitted with sign- j posts. In Hawke’s Bay, he believed, | there were sign-posts at all bad corners j and dangerous hills had rfigns on them. 1

It was decided that a (,'lub, to be called the Stratford Motoring Club, be formed.

A motion was passed admitting private motor car owners to membership. The rules of the 'Palmerston body wore gone through and generally adopted.

It was decided that no entrance fee be charged, and that the subscription be 7s 6d, reducible to 5s if paid within a month of election. The club’s colors were fixed as red and black. Mr W. B. Fearon was elected secretary pro tern., and all present were appointed a bVorking committee. A further meeting is to be held at an early date, at which the officers will be elected.

It was stated that a run to Grenui was contemplated for next week-end. A member expressed the view that there should be toll-gates throughout the province. One did not object to paying three-pence for the privilege of riding on the Eltham-Opunake Road.

The chairman said the club should be able to more successfully urge its views on County Councils than private persons. In Hawke’s Bay bad places were indicated by a red triangle mountid on the top of a post.

A vote of thanks to the chair conluded the meeting.
