WOMAN SERIOUSLY BURNED.

Mrs Christina Murray, a woman of 33 or 34 years of age, who was on a visit* to her mother, Mrs Murphy, of Leith -street, was admitted early this morning to the hospital suffering front severe burns, It appears that sho had been reading in bed, with a candle beside her, and that she dropped off to sleep. The bedclothes caught fire, and the household was awakened by the cries of Mrs Murray's little dan ■ghter, *\vho was sleeping in the samt bed. Inquiry this evening elicited the information that Mrs Murray's condition was serious. RAILWAY DEATH TRAPS. \ Wauganni, January 20. A niarried man named Thomas Glees'on, ftced 37. enrploved by the Bor dugh Council, was killed at the Harrison street level crossing this evening.- ','leeson was driving a dray acros; the line when an engine coming from Aramoho smashed the vehicle. The unfortunate man's neck was broken, but his body was thrown clear and not mutilated. SURF BATHER DROWNED. Dunedin, January 20. An inquest was held this morning on the body of Thomas Lowe, who was drowned while surf bathing at . St. Kilda beach on Sunday afternoon. After hearing the evidence of Joseph Periria, who made a good attempt to rescuje the deceased, the coroner returned a verdict of accidental drowning. | ■
