The Wellington Racing Club received a splendid response from owners for their Summer meeting, which opens 1 to-morrow. Taranaki will be represented by Patronale, Red Lupin and Play-off, all of whom should run pro- . minently.
Of the nine who figure in the Trentham Welter, Belasco and Record will probably be well supported. '
The large number of nineteen remain in the Nursery Handicap. Honesty and Purseform are very smart over a short course, and should run well. Glenfinnan and Stepney will receive a lot of support for the Anniversary Handicap.
The great field of twenty-six are still engaged in the Trial Plate. Should Histoirette reproduce her Ellerslie form she will take some beating. The Cup bears a very open appearance, ninety-five per cent, of the horses engaged haying a chance “on paper:” The writer heard on most reliable authority that Rinaldo would not go to the post in this event, but will bo reserved for the w.f.a. event, the Waterloo Stakes. The connections of Lord Renown are very sanguine about that equine’s chance. Birkline, who will probably be ridden by Gray, must have a great chance. Leonta, who hails from the powerful Fordell stables, presided over by Tilley, has been specially reserved for this event, but is' hardly brilliant' enough for the field under review. Birkline, Kilrain, and Lord Renown should provide a good race.
Many of the acceptors for the Ruapehu, Hack claim other engagements, and the field may not he large. Hay Fly and Play-off should carry a lot of money. i : ,7
The Waterloo Stakes should provide a great contest. Should Rinaldo be a runner he must take no end of beating, as the racing received at Ellerslie should' do the Charlemagne colt a lot of good. Antnmnns - is reported as well, and will put up a great fight. Twenty-four accepted for the Telegraph Handicap, including Grattan, who pulled up lame last Friday and will hot be a starter. Bon Reve is greatly fancied by his party, but will have to do his best to beat Mowbray, Palisade and Beldame.
