King Alfonso, after laying the foun(dations of new garden city buildings at Carabanchel, near the capital, conversed with pressmen. His Majesty stated that he intended | constructing cottages for the men employed on the Royal estates at Seville and Elpardo, costing £12,000, and also [erecting cottages for the poor in the workmen’s quarter, Madrid, mortgaging the Seville cottages to meet the cost.

After outlining various schemes His Majesty added: “Eventually I will have everything up the spout, and as tor myself I will be gaoled, although I hope the tribunals will find means of pardoning me. I could never sign my own pardon.”
