BERNARD'S PICTURES. To-night at His Majesty’s a superior change of films will be screened. The feature drama, “Parting of the Ways,” is thrilling in the extreme. “Carnival Week in Christchurch,” showe a fine picture of the N.Z. Cup, and also the Trotting Cup of £2OOO, and other incidents at the short’ grounds. “The Substitute Engineer” (Kalem drama), runs as follows:—A young engineer is appointed to a responsible position. He leaves his pocket book containing the letter of appointment and a photo of himself in a restaurant. This is found by a party of crooks, and determine to represent the real engineer and gain admission to the works and commit a robbery. They bind the real engineer and proceed on their nefarious business. Reaching the works the ■substitute engineer, who really knows nothing about engineering, starts the 4 engine and loses control of it. The real engineer, however, prevents a catastrophe. On Friday evening the immortal French Work of Victor Hugo “Les Miserahles,” 12,000 ft. in length, lasting over 2} hours, will ho screened.
