The National Wool-growers' Association conference at Salt Lake City criticised the placing of wool on the free list. Mr Hagenbarth, the president, declared that American flockmasters were reduced to compete on unequal terms with half-clad, savage South Africans, the peons of South America or skilled producers of New Zealand and Australia. American breeders should pay a higher price for pure-bred animals to' improve the brood, like Australia and New Zealand. Where Americans paid £2O-for an individual ram, Australians and New Zealanders paid from £2OO to £IOOO.
