A railway ganger named Ferry, with Ids wife and two children were travelling on a trolley .when a light engine ran over them, the wife and both children being killed.

The Commissioner of the New South Wales Savings Bank has fixed the interest on deposits for the current year at Sj per cent.—a quarter lower than in 1913.
FIRE THROUGH FUMIGATION.
Brisbane, January 15
The steamer Somerset was damaged by fire during fumigation. This will involve extensive repairs on the vessel's arrival in London.
' PRINTERS' STRIKE ENDED.
Hobort, January 15
The printers' strike has ended and the men'returned to work. The terms accepted were G3s for jobbing hands; an advance of 3s on the old scale; three and one-eighth per thousand ens for linotypers ;„all others at the provincial rate. POLITICAL CRISIS PENDINC. A political crisis is pending in Tasmania owing to the by-election, which deprived the Government of a majority. The Liberal and Labour parties are equally divided—fifteen each. If the Opposition refuse to give the Government a Speaker a crisis and a subsequent election will follow.
FIRE AT A COOPERAGE.

'A lire at Cormack's cooperage at Darling Harbor did damage estimated at £9OOO, which is covered by insurance. "BLACK" WHEAT. Trouble is looming in connection with the dispute over country settlers handling wheat weekly. Meantime, the Wharf Laborers' Union has decided on no account to hamue "black" wheat., If the country unionists are apprised of the number of trucks, the farmers are prepared to checkmate them by loading them, themselves if necessary.
