Mi- Healy, inspector of machinery,

paid his usual visit of inspection along the eastern line on Tuesdav.

The death is repotted from Tokio of Admiral Coiuu Yuko Ito, chief of the .Japanese naval general staff. He was born in 1843, entering the navy in lSb'S. He attained the rank of Lieut.-Commander in 1872. In 1877 he took part in the civil war. He was promoted to the post of captain in 1882, and was promoted to RearAcimiral 1886,' Yice-Admrral 1892. in 1891 lie fought the battle of the Yalu (China), being in complete command of the whole of the squadrons; He was appointed chief of the Naval Genet;!! Staff in 1895, and in 1898 was created a full Admiral.
