BALFOUR ON "THEISM."
THE CIFFORD LECTURES.

The Rit. Hon. Arthur Balfour, who was appointed Lord Rector of the Glasgow University in 1890, in commencing the Clifford lectures at the University, chose Theism as his subject. Ho indicated that Theism does not meet the difficulties of the plain man's conception of God, and his philosophical conclusions must ultijmately be brought into harmony and connection.

Mr Balfour, in his opening lecture of a series of twenty on theism, at the Glasgow University, said he did not wish to discuss the absolute, hut the God that t6ok sides and who ivorked for a great end was a spirit engaging other spirits, who asked us to work with him.
