STATE NAVIGATION DEPARTMENT. Mr Groom, Minister of Trade and Commerce, stated that as soon a> the Act proclaims a State Navigation' Department, it would he automatically vested in the Commonwealth. 1; • QUEENSLAND SUGAR CROP. Mr Groom said that the settlement of the sugar question by the Federal Government had given complete satisfaction to Queensland. Before the close of the session, every penny of excise collected from growers received an additional £31,000 bounty. The sugar crop this year was a record one,, and the outlook for Queensland exceedingly good. BULK HANDLING OF WHEAT. The Premier endorsed Mr Treflc’s scheme for the hulk-handling of wheat. The Government intends pushing ahead in the matter, which provides for three general grain elevators with a special type of railway truck.

FIRE INSURANCE AMOUNTS.
Melbourne, January 13
The insurances on the Coliseum fire wore, £11,250, including a policy in New Zealand for £3500. The Town Hall was insured for £IO,OOO.
