(Peb Press Association.]
Auckland, January 12
■ The final round of the chess tourney . ommeuced this morning. The pairing and openings were: Davies v. Dodd, Ruy Lopez; Grierson v. Moore, Huy Lopez; Miles v. Hicks, centre counter gambit; Myers v. Mason, Ruy Lopez; Severne v. Gyles, 3 knights game; stewart v. Kwelling, centre counter gambit; Wingfield v. Barnes, king’s bishop opening; James, a bye.
At tbe midday adjournment all appeared perfectly level, with one exception. Wingfield has lost a pawn. All die others have equal pieces and lawns, reckoning a knight as equal to i bishop. The greatest interest lies in die games Myers v. Mason and Davies /. Dodds. In the former each has a ■ook and live pawns and the position looks very “drawish.” In the latter, ■osides a queen, two rooks and seven lawns each Davies has two knights uid Dodds has a bishop and a knight. Neither side appears to have any advantage. , . ; ■ ~ 1(| I
