The trial of Karl Hopf has commenced. Accused is charged with poisoning with arsenic his lather, first wife, two children, with attempting the murder ot his mother and his second and third wives. He withdrew his confession and exclaimed that he was suffering from mental .collapse when he administered cholera to his third wife.

A cablegram on April 1(1-stated that Karl Hopf, formerly the world’s foils champion, had been arrested on a charge of poisoning two wives and attempting to poison a third. A quantity of cyanide of potassium and arsenic and cultures of typhus and cholera bacilli were discovered in his house. All Ins wives were heavily insured, the third for £4OOO
