Rear-Admiral Sir Reginald Enstance states *that the armour ol a Dreadnought can easily be perforated hy primary guns at fighting range#' while it is thicker thati necessary to exclude projectiles of secondary guns. If the'armour could be reduced without impairing the fighting efficiency, a great saving would lie possible, but the naval authorities of the various Powers naturally shrank from an initial step involving such great responsibility.
