DAMAGE £IOO,OOO.

FIREMEN’S EXCITING TIME.

(Deceived 9.10 a.m.) Melbourne, January 12,

Another estimate of the fire’s damiage is £IOO,OOO. Besides the Coliseum, which covered an area of 100 ft. by 300 ft., the Town Hall, three shops, and a dwelling were burned or destroyed by the falling debris. The brigade’s splendid efforts prevented a disastrous spread.

Several firemen had a narrow escape from falling walls, three of which collapsed owing to the fierce heat. Three hundred employees have been added to the unemployed. Mr Dunlop, the well-known representative player, one of the proprietors of the Coliseum, had completed plans to depart for England on Tuesday to play in the Davis Cup, hut his departure will probably bo delayed.
