SERIOUS TRAP ACCIDENT.

BACKWARD OVER A BANK.

Ashburton, .January 12

A serious accident occurred on Mount Somers Road yesterday afternoon. Mrs Nevin, with her year-old baby and three other children, Mrs Bouden, sen., eighty years oi age, and Messrs Bowden and Nevin, were driving in a heavy spring cart. Mr Nevin alighted at the foot of-a hill to lighten the load, but some distance up the incline the horse began to run backwards. Bowden jumped out and tried, to stop it, but the cart went over tile side of tiio bank thirty feet into the shingle below, turning over three times, and finally resting

on the two women, with one child

among the horse’s feet. The others were thrown clear. With some difii'culty the cart was lifted off the women, who were unconscious. Mrs Nevin had her collar hone broken, while Mrs Bowden and one child were much bruised.
