Madame San via, a boardinghousekeeper, was robbed and strangled at her residence.

A mock trial of John Jasper for the murder of Edward Drood was hold at Covent Garden Theatre, Messrs G. Bernard ShaWj G. K. Chesterton, Cecil Chesterton, Pet Kidge, Conlson Kernahan, Tom Gallon, Max Pemberton, and W. W. Jacobs participating. The jury found John Jasper guilty of manslaughter, after mirthful proceeding*.

An explosion occurred among the cinematograph films in the Gaumont Company’s premises, which were swept by a sheet of flame. Two girls were killed and. several persons seriously injured. The fact that only a few employees were working in the premises minimised the casualties.
