Although six stitches have been put iu his heart, Vincenzo Lauro, the victim of the stabbing affray, is, expected to live. When taken: 't'o a hospital at Brooklyn the surgeons decided to perform the rare operation, and the severed tissues of the heart were joined together with six stitches. The weak condition of the patient made it impossible to give him an anaesthetic, so cocaine, injected locally was used. The ribs above the heart had to be cut away.

The patient has made excellent progress, and is expected to re cover.
