CRICKET. WELLINGTON V. SOUTHLAND. [Per Press Association.] Invercargill, January 7. .The interprovincial cricket match, Wellington v. Southland, was continued to-day. Wellington in their first innings, made 125, and in their second effort made 155 (Wagstaff 00, Joplin 21). Crocket took three wickets for 14 runs, Kavanagh two for 39, Poole two for 35, and Doig three for 36. Southland in their first innings-made 97, and in their second innings had lost six wickets for 06 runs when stumps were drawn. The game was drawn-. Saunders took three wickets for 21 runs, McGirr two for 13, Grimmett none for 13, and Grace two for 5. ATHLETICS. SPORTS AT PALMERSTON NOTH. In the high jump Templeton cleared sft. 9in, and made a shot at sft. 11 in., hut was unsuccessful. The half mile was an easy race for Power (U.S.A.), who covered the distance in 2min 4 see. Templeton easily heat Young’s 3ft handicap in the long jump, covering 21ft. 9in. against 19ft s]in.‘

HARD COURTS OR CRASS. London, January 7. The Lawn Tennis Association contemplates passing legislation in 191-7 to compel teams to state every year whether hard or grass courts "ill lie used in their country, in order to obviate a change of courts, whieh spoil opponents.
