MODERN BIOLOGY.
BLOOD TAKEN OUT AND WASHED A HUNGER METER. Philadelphia, December 30. Members of American biological societies witnessed a remarkable series oi experiments showing the possibility of removing blood from the system, thoroughly cleaning it, and returning it to the body without danger. A dog figured in the experiments, which included the introduction of harmless dyes into the systems of animals, so that the defusion of their blood supply was shown completely green. A rat, which was shown by Dr. Carlson, was fitted with an apparatus which registered hunger. As. it is felt by human beings, the doctor declared. appetite is to some extent independent of hunger, appetite being a nervous phenomenon of the brain, while hunger is a sensation arising from the stomach.
