CELEBRATIONS INAUGURATED.

The celebrations in connection with the Westland goldiiolds jubilee commenced to-day in fine weather. There were enormous crowds, the trains from all parts of tVestlaud being crowded. A huge number of pioneers and others from all parts oi New Zealand have gathered dining the past few days. At the first luncheon there was a presentation of a public welcome to the Governor. The address was presented by of Hokitika and the Chairman of the Westland County Council. A viH'y cordial welcome was given by a large assemblage, and the town was gaily decorated. A great crowd of pioneers are proceeding to Cass Square,' where a pioneer welcome will be given and the foundation-s Lone of the pioneers' memorial will be laid by the Governor. The functions extend over the remainder of the week.
