Eltham and Stratford Bowling Clubs I meet ill a banner malc'i on the fclrat'ford green on Ihu- Ja\ after neon. I Local players :i:e specially requebtcd to attend the g-een u,r P ,,aot "- e uor - v evening. One of the most valuable assets to those \vh owish to conquer the world is a nice public smile. So says a London paper. And by way of contrast there is the smile that most ot ; us are caught committing in public and regretting the moment alter, or longing to destroy if it has come within range of a camera. A public smile would really seem to bo an accomplishment, or an accessory, we should all try, to possess in these days, when we all run the risk of being immortalised, or at least, "filmed," without a moment's warning, much less a kindly hint to "look pleasant."
Round-table dinners (declare the "Ladies Pictorial") arc a revival that we may expect, to see experimented with this winter. For someone has discovered that the square-table dinner can never be quite a sociable function, and that our ancestors used to dine far more amiably when conversation could go "round" without cutting coiners. Then we are told that round tallies are regarded almost as an accumulation of valuable lumber by dealers in "antiques" of the Victorian era. A few shillings will buy quite an imposing "oak" or "mahogany," and this alone may be regarded as an inducement to try and revive the round dinner.
