KIKUYU CONTROVERSY.
AUSTRALIAN OPINIONS. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! [United Press Association, i Sydney, January 2. While some of the Anglican leaders urge the necessity ot reservation of opinions until full details are known regarding the controversy in connection with the proposed federation of non-Catholic churches in Last Africa, one section gives hearty approval to the steps which have been taken by the Bishops of Mombassa and Uganda towards unity of the churches, j. On the other hand, the high church | section thinks that white the Bishops of Mombassa and Uganda doubtless wished to further what men of all views in the Church desire, viz., a union among all bodies of 'Christians, they have gone the wrong way about furthering the cause of unity. Peace at I any price is a disastrous principle to act upon.
The leaders of other Protestant bodies warmly approve the action of the Bishops of Uganda and Mombassa.
ANGLICAN UNITY.
THE DANCER OF SCHISM.
(Received 9.5 a.m.) London, December 2. The Dean of Durham that the spirit and substance of the Bishop of Zanzibar’s attitude are distinctively Roman. Though he woidd never seek to drive the Bishop of Zanzibar from the Anglican Church, the Bishop must recognise the principle of our lives, viz., that it is the church’s duty to draw closer the other Protestant churches.
The Guardian says: “A working arrangement between the Anglican and other Protestant Churches of the Empire will be the greatest religious event since the Reformation, but there are things which the Church cannot relinquish in the cause of reunion, especially if the effort produces schism within her own borders.”
The Archbishop of York says the discussion will test the Church’s power to know her own mind and take her own place in Christendom. ; Unless the issues are wisely handled, it will set back the course of Christian unity by endangering Anglican unity.
