DICKIE IN TUE FINAL.
MISS GRAY WINS THE SINGLES.
[Pek Press Association.] Auckland, December 30. The championships were resumed to-day in perfect weather.
In the semi-final of the men's singles, Dickie (Taranaki) beat Goss (Canterbury), 7—5, B—6, I—6, 9—7. In the final of the ladies' singles, Miss Gray (Otahuhn) beat Miss Baird
G_2, B—6. The winner played a steady baseline game, some very long rallies being played, invariably resulting in favor of Miss Grey, who waited for her opponent to make mistakes. She played a sound, consistent game.
CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP. THE FOURTH ROUND. i Auckland, December 30. The fourth round of the chess championships commenced this morning. The pairing is: (ivies v. Panics, .Mason v. Kelling, James v. Hicks, Dodds v. Moore, Miles v. Severne, (Jrierson v. Davies, Myers v. Wingfield. Grierson /. , Davies.—Kuy r Lope*;.. A very even igamW Dlaw agreed to at the 35th move. 11.Dodds v. Moore.—Queen's Knight opening. The game followed the lines of centre gambit. White being a -move .ahead, .Moore was very much pressed ifor time, $ Hid played neatly to the twelfth move, which resulted in the loss of a rook. He resigned on the 22nd move.
