RECENT SMALLPOX.
COMMONWEALTH RESTRICTIONS

Dr. Ctimstou, Commonwealth Director of Quarantine, lias informed the Hon. R. H. Rhodes that the Public Health Department is prepared to remove all quarantine restrictions on passengers from New Zealand and Australia providing all present and future cases of smallpox are isolated; that contacts are kept under supervision; that every means to detect unreported cases be used; that bulletins be forwarded weekly, and thaivessels From New Zealand arriving in Sydney be inspected and released under the same conditions that exist regarding the people leaving Sydney and other parts of the Commonwealth, namely, that an undertaking be given to report any illness up to'2l days. As to the conditions regarding the isolation of patients, the Minister said it had been observed throughout New Zealand, and in order tb expedite the removal of restrictions he bad cabled agreeing to the conditions.
