STRATFORD RACING CLUB
EXCELLENT Pi! OSPECTS
I Never previously in the history of the Stratford Racing Club have the prospects looked brighter than they do for the forthcoming New Year meeting. With larger acceptances than ever previously, increased stake money and many permanent improvements to the course, grounds and appointments, and with the' weather ; practically set fair a "big time" may bo looked forward to.
It might be remarked that although ,U first some doubts were entertained lis to whether the fine new roadway would be completed in time owing to the spell of bad weather, fortunately the weather cleared up, and the energy of the contractor, My F. W. Green, and his men lias'enabled the"work to' l)i- finished. This will be a great consilience to all reaching the grounds by motor and vehicle. To-day the roadway is being rolled so - that'it will be in first-class order for the meeting. Several of the visiting horses have arrived and there is already a fairly heavy call for accommodation.
The Taranaki Garrison Band (thirty performers), who were playing at the New Plymouth races, and whose music was very favorably commented on, are to give their services each day at the Stratford Club's' meeting. An innovation'taken up on the.suggestion of a member of the Club who ic.-ently visited Australia is the sell- •\\% of gate tickets in the streets. This should prove a convenience to visitor* to the town and should also minimise or eliminate any crushing at the entrance gates: The Club has added extensively to he loose boxes and there .should be t.iiple accommodation for - all visiting hoi'ses.
The committee'of the Club met last ■light and made'nnal arrangements for the rneeting. - So far as can be - gathered""the" number of visitors from : outside places is likely to be larger this year than ever ,~fore.
