Mr C. Potts, of Eltham, will shortly leave for Tauranga where lie will enter into possession of the Star Hotel.
The Hon. J. A. Millar, it is understood, will, before next session, retire from the House of Representatives and will be oflered a seat in the Legislative Council.
Lord Kelburn, the eldest son of the Earl and Countess of Glasgow, leaves London by the Otway in December, to take command of HALS. Pyramus, in New Zealand waters.
Father Bernard Vaughan has been asked by tile executive of the New Zealand Catholic Federation and the Victorian Federation, and with the consent of the Hierarchy of the Commonwealth and the Dominion, to pay a visit to Australia and New Zealand, and it is expected that he will consent.
Mr McCombs, Lyttelton’s new member, is highly -spoken of by many people who are Avell acquainted with him. He is a clean-living man, an ardent Prohibitionist and advocate of no-license. He was a right-hand supporter of the late Mr T..E. Taylor iii his election contests and was indefatigable in his efforts to secure Mr Taylor’s return. During the recent contest the widow of Mr Taylor took a \*ery active part in it, speaking for and Avovking hard on behalf of her late husband’s friend.
Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., has been appointed senior stipendiary magistrate at Wellington in succession to the late Dr. McArthur (says a Press Association message). Mr D. G. A. Cooper, at present registrar and sheriff of the Supremo Court at Wellington, has been appointed to succeed Mr Riddell as second magistrate there. It is understood that ho will take up his iioav duties early in the coming year. Mr J. S. Evans, S.M., avlio has been relieving magistrate at Wellington since Dr, McArthur’s death, will prohahly vVtmn to his OAvn district, Nelson, shortly.
