THROUGH THE ROARING FLAMES IN A LIFT.
y Received 11,50 a.m.) Sydney, December IS
Under rough estimate, the damage will bo fully £IOO,OOO. The firms affected in the main building are the Universal Films Company, Anchor Mail Proprietary, Eckersley and Sons (soda water fountain makers), Wybrow Company (shoe manufacturers), and a number of smaller businesses.
A large quantities of “"rubber and other inflammable material made the fire spread fiercely. The rapid collapse of the walls disorganised the electric telephone service badly.
The caretaker and his family escaped partially clad by means of a lilt through the roaring flames.
