The reading was carried by 54 to 4, Messrs Hindmarsh. Robertson and Parata'voting with Mr Webb. .„ The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Bill was brought down by Governor's message. In reply, to Sir Joseph Ward Mr Massey said it was a new Bill, and was supplementary to the one on the Order Paper. It only contained seven or eight clauses. In reply to Mr Webby the Premier said the Bill dealt with the six-day

week for hotel employees. The Bill was read a first time. The Stock Amendment and Apiaries Amendment Bills, were put through j-their committee stage. When the Labour Disputes Investigating Bill was in committee, Mr Massey said, in reply to Sir Joseph Ward, that he would have a clause inserted in the Upper House providing for a secret ballot of employees concerned in a-strike or lock out. The Bill was reported with machinery amendments. The Law Practitioners' Amendment •Bill was passed through committee, a new clause being added providing that on and after Ist April, 1911, solicitors shall at their own cost have their trust accounts audited on a penalty of £IOO. The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill was passed with minor amendments. All the above Bills, except the Labor Bill, were read a third time and pas.-^ ed. The House rose at 3.55 till 11 o'clock. ~ ........_
