BURSTING OF A WATERSPOUT.

Gore, December 12
A severe thunderstorm visited Gore and district this afternoon. A waterspout burst over a farm near Waikaka Valley and inundated several farms. Sixty shep were drowned and fences carried away. A large paddock of drilled turnips was levelled to the surface. It is reported that the railway line was shifted four or five feet. The phenomenon burst on farmers unawares. They could do nothing but look on. Stock were washed away. There were 14ft. of water in some gullies that are usually dry. A few miles away no rain fell at all.
