OHURA NEWS.
(From the “Advocate.”) At the County Council meeting.— No tender was received tor burning JUOU yards of papa on Alain Ohara road.—Cr. Lovoday moved and it was carried: that this Council takes strongexception to the Advances Board’s refusal to entertain the loan proposals for the 'Ohara township for sewerage, drainage and formation work considering cue Health Officers’ reports on the insanitary state of the township. That this matter having been held up by the Advances Office now for two seasons, personal application be made.—Cr. Lyon moved, and it was carried: That the Minister of Public Works - be asked to enquire from his officer at Te Kuiti why the formation of the Ohura Main road is hung up at his instance, he having requested that the work Shall lie held over and not let at present. An Otangiwai ratepayer writes to us protesting against the stray stock nuisance. We Can say it is just the same all through the county, hut as a ranger lias now been appointed it is to be hoped he will get to business right away and keep the China and Matiere pounds well tilled with stock from “the long paddock.” Otangiwai correspondent writes: At the last meeting of the school committee arrangements were made as far as possible for the School Picnic and prize distribution to he held on Boxing Day. The committee are enthusiastic and hope, to eclipse all past efforts in the direction of giving both parents and scholars a gpod time at this pleasant reunion. This is quite in annual fixture, for years past between three and four hundred foregathering to enjoy themselves. Many come along, from as far afield as Tatn and Aria, and quite a decent sports programme is carried through in addition to prize distribution, to say nothing of seasonable toys, fruits and sweets for the “kiddies.” School concert and dance will also he held on hreaking-np day (December 19th), to which your own on behalf of the committee gives a cordial invitation to “Mr Editor,” as also to the picnic on Boxing Day. . Removing Day.—ft was indeed moving day on Tuesday, when our local bootmaker shifted into his now quarters in Austin’s Buildings, and it seems that “Robbie” has great belief as to Ohufa’s future.
