STRATFORD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. At last night’s meeting there were present, Messrs P. Skoglund (chair), T. C. Fookes, E. W. Hancock, J. Staples and J. McMillan. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. Mr Tyrei 1 reported as follows: All arrangements are complete for the annual school concert. Excepting that Miss Sangster (an old school girl) is to sing for us, the whole programme is made up of children’s items. The members of the Committee arc expected to assist us on the evening 61 the concert from 7.30. Tickets are being sold freely, and we may reasonably expect a big gathering. Ihe boys are getting the grounds in order for the spelts on the 18th inst. “Big” entries have been received for the various competitions, and a good day’s sport may be expected. As the final examinations for the year are not complete, it will not be possible to award the prizes on the evening of the concert. I wish, therefore, to recommend that certificates won and infant prizes be giveif out in the schoolrooms on the 18th inst., at 12 o’clock, and that the prizes for the seniors be presented at 3 o’clock on the sports grounds. I make this recommendation as I know that parents like to see the prize distribution.
Mr Tyrer, who was present, rereferred to the staffing of the school for next year. He said that lie was not only losing Mis Hogg* hut he was also losing four teachers who had been trained in the school and whom he had known in their probationary period. As a whole, they were four of the best he had ever put through the school, and that was saying a good deal, as members of the committee would understand from their inside knowledge. Mr Tyrer said he would have to start to work next year with five raw recruits. Ho mentioned the matter so that members of the committee would understand exactly the position of the staff. GENERAL,. It was resolved to call for tenders for the work of fencing, round the horse, paddock. 'l ive presentations to Miss Hogg have heeii arranged to take place ai the school on the morning of the 18th inst., ‘-,J)reak-up” day, when the attendance certificates will also he disr trihnted.
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Moyes, principal of the New Plymouth High School, for. his kindly and sportsmanlike action in offering to billet the boys representing the southern schools at the Bayly Memorial sports. The chairman reported that he had already conveyed the thanks of the Rugby Union Executive to Mr Moves for his attentions regarding tho sports. The following resolution was passed unanimously: That the Board’s attention be called to the manner in which the medical examination by Dr. Gunn was conducted, and that the Committee deprecates the fact that senior scholars were assisting the medical officer in contradiction to the instructions as to the confidential nature of the enquiry.
