MATCH AND TIN 1 OP’ POWDER.
A CARELESS* MAORI. [Per Press Association.] Gisborne, December 9. A startling accident occurred at Waipare, near Tokomaru Bay, to-day. A Maori named Hunia, aged about 93, was engaged in blasting posts, and after lighting a fuse lie carelessly tossed the used match into a tin of powder. He was blown some distance uid his clothing caught fire, his body being painfully burned. He will lose tlie sight of one-eye. He was removed to the Waiapti Hospital, where .he.lies n an extremely critical condition. OLD MAN'S DEATH. Dunedin, December 9. Richard May,-aged 71 .years. Utesid- j ing at GO, .Stafford' Street, died sud- ; denly about nine o’clock this morning, i Deceased belonged to Cromwell, For some time he had be.en troubled with ! his heart. Ho was advised,,..several times to see a doctor, but'•'ho never , did so. Aliout 8.45 ho was coughing, and he asked for a drink of gin. Ho i said he did not feel well, so Dr. Church was sent for, but May died before the doctor arrived.
