STRATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council, was? held last, nigh). The Mayor M(r W- P. Kirkwood) and Crs. Boon, Fredric, Dingle, King, Masters, Thompson and Arden.
WORKS COMMITTEE,. The Works Committee reported:— Your Committee begs to report as follow: T. Notices have been received from Public Health, Department calling attention to various insanitary premises. We recommend that requisitions he sent to the owners in terms of Health Officer’s recommendations. 2. An application for water has been made by W. Holmes for a house in Portia Street Central. Your Committee cannot recommend the Council to grant the request. OVERSEER’S. REPORT.
The Overseer reported : —I beg to report on the progress of works for the past month as under: The formation of Pembroke Road East, from Swansea Road to Mr Reid’s residence, hfis been completed. The footpath on the south-west side of Seyton Street, between Portia, Street and Hqmlet Street, has been re-gravelled. An entrance has been made ,to Mr Besley’s property in Hamlet Street. Patching has been done on Cordelia Street South and Broadway North. Crass has been cut off Broadway South between Page and Celia Streets. Two culverts have been inserted to carry off. stormwater from th.e school grounds. Grass has been grubbed off footpaths in Juliet Street from Fenton Street to Cloton Road, ami along Cloton Road to entrance of bowling green. Two wooden culverts have been inserted in watertables on Cloton Road. The widening of, footpath in Broadway North near Mr Budge’s and Mrs Taylor’s properties has been carried out as authorised. Notices to drovers and others have been placed in position. The bridge at the ' abattoirs has been completed. Foot bridges in Hamlet Street, Juliet Street and Orlando Street, have been repaired. The necessary concrete pipes for adverting purposes have been ordered, and should be here in a day or two. Water mains have been extended in Olivia Street to Mr Barlow’s property, and in Ariel Street to Mrs Gedge’s. Five water services have been put in during the month. All fire plugs in the Borough have been inspected, and some new distance plates placed where required. I beg to draw your attention to the fact that there. are several water-courses in the Borough which are filling, up thrqugh'.the constant driftj of silt from natural causes. 1 would suggest that you tak.e the necessary steps to compel owners of property to k.eep all water-courses open so as to allow water from all culverts a clear course, f ;»<■
THE ABATTOIRS. ■ Tie Abattoir Manager reported: The following stock was-slaughtered; Cows 70, heifers -9, oxen 29; halves <5, sheep. 289, lambs 89,:-pigs 31. Slaughtering fees £GI 8s 3d. Condemned stock-: Cows, 5 wholly, 5 partially; 1 heifer, wholly -; 2 oken, 'partially; 1 sheep, wholly; pigs, 2 wholly, 1 partially. The bridge in No. 2 paddock has been completed. Mr J. F. Curtis has given up business in Stratford as a butcher. His paddock roiiT has been paid up to December 31st, and he is making arrangements with another butcher for that period.

BOROUGH INSPECTOR.
The Borough Inspector reported : During the past month I impounded ten head of cattle. One person was convicted for riding a motor bicycle on the footpath, and two persons for driving gigs without lights. Fifteen street lights were put in. I have cautioned a number of people in Broadway for neglecting to keep the spouts on the verandahs in repaif, and also a number of people who have hedges overhanging footpaths.
GENERAL.
F. J. Barton applied for refund of
portion of the fee of £5 collected from him for a license to hold a circus.— Refused. The District Health Officer indicated two buildings in the town in a bad state, and asked that the Council serve requisitions on th,c owners.— Requisitions to be sent. Mr P. Thomson wrote that he intended to erect at the western end of Mr Newton King’s garage in Fenton Street; and ho asked that certain tyees in the vic- ■ inity l>e felled.—The request was i granted. The Major moved that the dog registration fee for the coming year he: For each greyhound 10s, for each other dog with the exception of cattle dogs ss, cattle dogs 2s (id. He also moved that the Borough Inspector be appointed registrar of dogs, with full power to seize, keep, or destroy {III unregistered dogs within the Borouglp—Carried. The Overseer was instructed to remove grass and dirt from the two bridges.
On the motion of Cr. Dingle it was decided that the Overseer prepare an estimate of the cost of putting in concrete kerhing and channelling from ietorin bridge to Colin Street on both sides of Broadway.
