legislative council. [Pee Press Association.] Wellington, December 8. The Legislative Coumjil met at 2.30 p.m. The Police Force Amendment Hill ami the Rating Act Amendment Bill aero read a second time (pro forma),, and were referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. •
The second readings of the Education Act Amendment Rill and the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act Amendment Bill were agreed to. The Counties Act Amendment .Bid was taken'through committee and reported with amendments. During the discussion, the Hon. F. H. D. Bell announced that the Government had the strongest possible objection to the creation of any new counties, but added that it was not proposed to abolish any existing local authorities. The Bill was read a third time. Tlio Education Reserves Act Amendment" Bill was further considered in committee, and was read a third time. ' The Divorce and Matrimonial Caiises Act Amendment Bill and the Education Act Ahiendment Bill were read a third time.
The Hon. (). SaMtiel 'presented the report of the Statutes Revision Committee on the Rating-Act Amendment Rill.—The Bill passed through’ committee and was; reported with amendments and read a third time.
The Canterbury College Act Amendment Bill was discharged from the Order Paper. The Council adjourned at 9.40 p.m.
