The people’s Army under Miss Sylvia Pankhurst had their first drill at Low, the headquarters, and shaped like awkward school children, being mostly unable to take the business seriously. Detectives watched laughingly, throughout, and the drill was not interrupted. The other army, under General Drummond, was raised to protect Mrs Pankhurst and Mrs Kenny from re-
arrest, and large numbers have joined. The Home Secretary observed the weapons used.

The American Women’s Suffrage Association lias launched a week’s campaign to secure women’s -suffrage throughout the Knifed States. Several women legislators addressed a mass meeting urging that a petition to the President be drawn up asking him to introduce a measure to Congress recommending the suffrage.
