A FEROCIOUS ITALIAN. \ VI [Per Press Association.] Invercargill, December 1. At the Police Court, Joseph Suliba, an Italian cook in a local hotel, was charged with obscene language, drunkenness and assaulting Sergt. Bingham in the execution of his duty. Saliba was arrested on Sunday night. He butted Bingham in the chest, besides causing a wound on the forehead. Constable Hood came to Bingham’s assistance, and the accused kicked and knocked him down. Finally he was overpowered, arid walked to the Police Station. A remand was granted until Thursday, bail being allowed.

A BANKRUPT SOLICITOR. Christchurch, December 1. In tho Supreme Court to-day, the hearing of a case arising from the bankruptcy of Walter Shaw, a solicitor, of Timaru, was started. The parties to the suit are the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy of the property cf Shaw, on the one side, and the Timaru Property Company; John Imrie, land agent; Hark Higgins, land agent; Frank Archdall Raymond, accountant; and Samuel Trevurza, far-: mer, on the other side. 'Mr E. Myers, with him Messrs Kinnerney and Weston, appeared for plaintiff. Mr C. P. Skerrett, K.C.. with Mr Cassidy, appeared for defendants, except Trevurza, for whom Mr Hoskmgs, K.C., with Mr Acland, appeared. The action is to set aside an agreement entered into in December last between Shaw (who is now serving two years’ imprisonment for misappropriation), and the Property Company and Trevurza. He has liabilities of £50,000, mostly trust money. The action seeks the recovery, for the honefit of the creditors of certain lands, or tho income from them, hold by the company. Plaintiff contends that the agreement was inequitable. Mr Myers’ opening address lasted from 10.30 a.m. till 2.20 p.m. The evidence of Walter Shaw was then taken. Witness was still under examination when the Court adjourned for the day.
