THE ANGER OF “THE GODS.”
A PLAY BANNED. [r t Electric Telegraph—Copyright] Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables (Received 8. a.m.) London, November 30. At the Repertory Theatre, Liverpool, Irish players from the Abbey Theatre, London, produced “The Playboy of the Western World.” In view of a possible hostile reception, the gallery was closed to the “gods,” who invaded the family circle. They threw blackthorns on the stage, narrowly missing the actors. Twenty men were ejected by the police, and the performance ended amid booing arid hissing. The season has been cancelled.
