METHODIST SYNOD.
THURSDAY’S MEETING. It was agreed that conference should be recoinemnded to appoint a native agent for work at llaholu. Manaia and Waimarino were recommended to bo relieved of responsibility to take a married 'minister next year, but it was i considered that Taihape should provide for a married man with a suitable grant from the Home Mission Fund. ■'
In the Statistical: report.-it was stated that there are in the district 19 ministers arid 4 home missionaries, o 4 churches, and 59 other- preaching places; 2,232 members were reported, an increase for the year of 126( attendont| at public worship vvefe ‘Estimated at 7895. Owing to Methodist union having taken place during the year, only 51 schools-aro now in the district, L r ) less than were in the two separate churches; yet there are now 295 teaphers, increase of 17; 2,898 scholars, an increase of 37. Gratitude to God was expressed for spiritual prosperity enjoyed during the year, with special reference to the Mission of Inspiration and Appeal.
■ The Synod expressed its sympathy with the President in his prolonged weakness subsequent on a recent operation, hoping his recovery would he hastened. • f> ; >: i.i <
It was resolved that all Trusts in the district he urged to insure in the Connexional Fire-Insurance Fund. Mrs E.. 0. Blamires addressed the Synod during the' afternoon 'concerning the Native. Deaconess 1 Training Home conducted' at’Okinawa hy Sister Nellie, urging its continuance. Later Sister Nellie hoVself spoke of ■ • the character, of her work among, the natives of this district. -The report hy Sister Huia of her work among the natives at Pipiriki and llaotihi was read, and ; iy»plauded. , The Syrioo-deci-ded to recommend the recognition and continuance of the Training Horn( at Okinawa, considering that the native girls trained there were urgently required by-the native race. The Synod sat during the evening 'and dealt with Home Mission matters. An. estimate was made of the money to be raised next year in this district for oiiy.
