The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1913. A FAITHFUL RECORD.

Stratford’s excellent public school has gained a deservedly high place in educational circles on the strength of an almost unbroken record of line work, and during the past quarter of a century it may well claim to have done as much for education, if not more, than any similar institution of its standing in the Dominion. This fact is plainly to be read from the annals ofj I the school itself, both as regards the primary and secondary departments. It is nearly twenty-three years since j Mr E. Tyrer took charge of the Stratford School as its Head Master and some eighteen months later Miss S. Hogg joined his staff as Infant .Mistress. It is especially on her account that to-day we recall these facts. For twenty-one and a-half years Miss Hogg has continued to give unbroken and devoted sendee in ibis position to her

profession, and ii is not now surprising that she has decided to retire from teaching at the end of the present year and take advantage of the benefits of the 1 Superannuation Act. Nevertheless it must ho admitted that

her decision to retire conies somewhat as a shock to the Head Master and her fellow-workers, as it will he to the parents of the district. Tt must he remembered that Miss Hogg is identified with the growth and progress of tin school from its healthy infant stage with a roll total of one Imnidred pupils until to-day its sturdy daily average attendance is from (570 Ito scholars, and that during her! [long service to the community, almost 'every family in the district must have come under her influence to some extent through her training of the little! ones at the wry outset of their scholastic careers. It must he re-1 memhered also that mauv men and!

women who to-day carry on life’s hnsi ness in these parts, while their child

ren to-day a.re being taught their j early lessons, received similar lessens at i he hands of the same teacher, ;md that as Infant Mistress it has been her privilege and her duty to hiv the foundations fit tin* school education of tln> great majority of the legion of hoys and girls, who in twenty odd years pass through a large public' school. How well she has done her work is abundantly evident from the results seen on every hand, and her record of faithful service in a calling which carries many more responsibilities than perhaps appear on the sue3••ict) is, we am certain, known and

appreciated by not a lew amongst the scholars, old scholars and parents resident in these parts. Miss Hogg’s record as a teacher is a very honourable one, and it is to tie Imped that a long life and much happiness is ahead of her now that she has resolved to enjoy the leisure to which she is fully entitled.
